India finance calculators

Every calculator here publishes the rate or slab it applies and the date that figure took effect, because in India both change on a schedule.

Key takeaways

  • Every calculator publishes the rate or slab it applies and the date that figure took effect.
  • India resets these on a schedule: small savings rates quarterly, GST slabs from 22 September 2025, LTCG from 23 July 2024.
  • Of three India calculator directories checked on 22 July 2026, none states an interest rate, a tax rule or a source.
  • The income tax calculator runs the old and new regimes side by side for AY 2026-27 rather than picking one.
  • Nothing here is tax or investment advice, and market-linked returns are never guaranteed.

The number an India calculator has to publish

A scheme calculator is only checkable if it tells you which rate it applied and when that rate took effect, because in India both move on a schedule. Small savings rates are revised quarterly. GST slabs changed. Capital gains rates changed mid financial year. A maturity figure without its rate is a number you have to take on trust.

That's the gap here, and it's sharper than the equivalent one in US finance.

Checking three India calculator directories on 22 July 2026: BankBazaar lists 15 calculators across four groups and states no rate, no tax rule and no source. Pocketful lists 48 and carries a single tagline. FinancialCalculator.io is the most substantial of the three, with more than 50 calculators, a how-it-works section and a real FAQ, and it still declares no rates and no effective dates, noting only that bank rates are scraped and updated regularly.

What changed, and when

Dates that move an answer, each carried on the tool that depends on it:

ChangeEffective
GST moved to nil, 5, 18 and 40 percent slabs22 September 2025
LTCG went from 10% over Rs 1 lakh to 12.5% over Rs 1.25 lakh23 July 2024
F&O securities transaction tax rose to 0.05% on futures and 0.15% on sold option premium1 April 2026
NSE transaction charges revised1 March 2026
Small savings rates (PPF, SSY, NSC, SCSS)revised quarterly

The GST one matters more than it looks. Nine of thirteen India GST tools we checked while building that page still offered the abolished 12% and 28% slabs, which returns a confidently wrong tax on a current invoice.

Where the India tools sit

Income tax runs the old and new regimes side by side for AY 2026-27, with the Section 87A rebate, the marginal relief line at 12 lakh, surcharge under the new-regime 25% cap, and 4% cess. Take-home salary reuses that engine for its TDS line and decomposes CTC into what actually arrives, including the EPS and EPF split and the gratuity that is not part of a monthly figure.

The small savings tools (PPF, SSY, NSC, POMIS, SCSS, KVP) each carry their scheme rate and its quarter. Trading tools publish the rate table with effective dates rather than hiding it, which is how the F&O change above surfaced.

Some India intents are served from the main finance section instead, because the tool is the same in both places: down payment exposes a rupee and dollar mode, and stock average defaults to rupees.

What these pages will not do

None of this is tax or investment advice. Mutual fund returns are market-linked and not guaranteed, so a projection is arithmetic on an assumption you supplied, not a forecast. Tax outcomes turn on details a calculator never sees.

Consult a SEBI-registered adviser for investment decisions and a CA for anything on your return. Nothing you type is stored; the calculations run in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the effective date of a rate matter? Because India resets these figures on a schedule, so the same calculation gives different answers either side of a date. PPF, SSY, NSC and SCSS rates are revised quarterly, GST moved to the nil, 5, 18 and 40 percent slabs on 22 September 2025, and long-term capital gains changed on 23 July 2024 from 10% over Rs 1 lakh to 12.5% over Rs 1.25 lakh. A calculator that shows a rate without its date cannot be checked.

Do the India calculator directories publish their rates? Not on the pages checked on 22 July 2026. BankBazaar lists 15 calculators and Pocketful 48, and neither states an interest rate, a tax rule or a source. FinancialCalculator.io carries the most content of the three, with an FAQ and a how-it-works section, and still declares no rates and no effective dates, saying only that bank rates are scraped and updated regularly.

What is the difference between EMI and SIP? An EMI is a fixed instalment repaying a loan, and a SIP is a fixed instalment buying units of a mutual fund, so the same arithmetic runs in opposite directions. Both use the compounding formula, but an EMI amortises a balance down to zero while a SIP accumulates a corpus upward.

Which tax regime do the income tax calculators use? Both, side by side, because the answer depends on which one you pick. The income tax calculator runs the old and new regimes together for AY 2026-27, applying the Section 87A rebate and its marginal relief at 12 lakh, the surcharge with the new-regime 25% cap, and the 4% cess.

Is any of this tax or investment advice? No. These tools apply published rates to the numbers you enter and state which rates they used. Mutual fund returns are market-linked and not guaranteed, and tax outcomes turn on details a calculator does not see, so consult a SEBI-registered adviser for investments and a CA for tax.
